The week ahead

It’s December!!! (Well almost, if you’re reading this Sunday evening). We’re excited!!! Our new topic ‘Let’s Celebrate!’ begins tomorrow and lasts throughout the whole of December. The Foundation Stage setting has been sprinkled with festive cheer and we’re hoping that the children will be full of excitement tomorrow (if you’re reading this Sunday evening, keep it a secret).

Although “holidays are coming”, we will continue to work hard and be in full learning mode right up until we break up. In Reception, we will be focusing our work around the theme of The Gingerbread Man, but with a festive twist.

We will be retelling the story of The Gingerbread Man through role play, puppets and in writing. We will be using number interactive games on the whiteboard that have a Gingerbread Man theme and will be focusing on ordering numbers, one more / one less. In art we are going to be making several Gingerbread Man themed items (but they’re a secret at the moment!)

Kinetic Letters

We are continuing on with the Abracadabra Family letters. Again, I will update this blog with examples and what we say for each letter, so keep an eye out for those.

Phonics

As explained last week, following the Letters and Sounds assessment we have now split the year group into 3 phonics groups to enable us to carefully teach the children at a level appropriate to them. Ask your child which group s/he is in:
*Miss Cookson’s phonics group will be revising Phase 2 Set 2
*Mrs Walton / Miss Birch’s phonics group will be recapping Phase 2 Set 4
*Mine / Mrs Read’s phonics group will be learning new sounds from Phase 3 Set 7 (although these are called Set 7, this is because they follow on from Phase 2, but is actually only the second set of sounds within Phase 3.) So that you can continue to support your child at home, if your child is now on Phase 3, s/he will bring home the new sounds booklet this coming week.

Stay and Play

Stay and Play will be on again this week on Wednesday morning from 8.45 – 9.15am.

Dates for your diary

*Tuesday 16th December from 9am – Reception / Key Stage 1 Christmas Celebration – Reception / Year 2 will be singing some festive songs and Year 1 will perform The Nativity
*Wednesday 17th December from 9am – Reception / Key Stage 1 Christmas Celebration – Reception / Year 2 will be singing some festive songs and Year 1 will perform The Nativity (2nd performance – there will be no Stay and Play this day)
