Until the holidays, we are continuing on with our work around The Gingerbread Man.
Also this week we will be learning about The Nativity story in preparation for the live Nativity at the farm on Friday’s school trip and for our own school Christmas celebrations next week. We will also be learning about Hanukkah which starts on December 16th and lasts for eight days. Just as we did when we learnt about Diwali, we will be exploring how there are many different religions and that the people who share those beliefs celebrate in certain ways. We are very keen for the children to be proud of their own cultures and family traditions and a Home Learning project which will come home for over the holidays will encourage the children to share different family celebrations with us. So keep a look out for this Home Learning letter which will be out soon.
We are continuing on with the Abracadabra Family letters. We have now learnt all of this family of letters for formation – c, a, d, g, q, o, s – we say…
c – pull around, down, push (this starts every letter in this family).
a – pull around, down, push, up (like a helicopter), down, bump, flick.
d – pull around, down, push, up (like a helicopter with a big engine), down, bump, flick.
g – pull around, down, push, up (like a helicopter), down, on down, pull around for a tail.
q- pull around, down, push, up (like a helicopter), down, on down, flick.
o – pull around, down, push up and stop, flick.
s – write a small c (pull around, down, push) and pull round.
*Miss Cookson’s phonics group will be revising Phase 2 Set 3
*Mrs Walton / Miss Birch’s phonics group will be recapping Phase 2 Set 5
*Mine / Mrs Read’s phonics group will be learning new sounds from Phase 3 Set 8 (although these are called Set 8, this is because they follow on from Phase 2, but is actually only the third set of sounds within Phase 3.) If your child is in this phonics group s/he should have brought home a named Phase 3 booklet last Monday. If you didn’t get one, please let us know and we will send another home.
Stay and Play
Stay and Play will be on again this week on Wednesday morning from 8.45 – 9.15am.
Reception school trip to the farm
This Friday is Reception’s trip to the farm to learn about a working farm and the animals. Whilst they are there the children will get to see a Nativity play with live farm animals and as part of the farm’s Christmas celebrations the children will also get to visit Santa. Please check the parent mail letter that was sent out last week as this has all the information that you need to know about suitable clothing and providing a packed lunch in a disposable bag. (No lunch boxes please)
Dates for your diary
*Friday 12th December – during school time Reception farm trip
*Friday 12th December – straight after school – Christmas fayre
*Tuesday 16th December from 9am – Reception / Key Stage 1 Christmas Celebration – Reception / Year 2 will be singing some festive songs and Year 1 will perform The Nativity
*Wednesday 17th December from 9am – Reception / Key Stage 1 Christmas Celebration – Reception / Year 2 will be singing some festive songs and Year 1 will perform The Nativity (2nd performance – there will be no Stay and Play this day)
*Friday 19th December – Christmas party – party food will be instead of the school meals / packed lunches on this day. Please look out for a letter that will come home this week, but advanced warning, as we have several children in the year group who have food allergies, we have decided not to have a sign up sheet for party food but instead will send home a paper plate for you to fill with party goodies for just your child to eat on party day. The benefits of this way are: you know what your child is eating, the children with allergies are the same as everybody else with their own party plate and also there is no left over party food which just goes to waste. We will provide squash for the children to drink.
Have a great week!
